He is expected to be fine. He will come home tomorrow with a prescription and bland diet regimen.

We have a smooth skin avocado tree that drops fruit into the yard our dog has access. The information on here seems outdated. Don't think that they should probably eat large amounts of them but it appears that in smaller amounts that most dogs will be fine eating some avocado. Mostly from the squirrels who love to nibble on them. They run and frolic and don't seem to be affected at all! Darn it! They just keep nibbling. So frustrating. And other wild animals gnaw on what falls to the ground too. All kinds of weird teeth marks on them. Our dogs & our neighbors dog LOVE them!! All are going strong after 11 years of age. They actually seem to feel better after eating them. We just have to monitor what they eat as it does bulk them up a bit. They don't eat the skin or the seed. Perhaps like people some dogs may be allergic. I would just keep an eye on them if eating for the first time. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Does NOT affect the wildlife or the dogs here. While avocado is toxic to some animals, in dogs and cats, we do not expect to see serious signs of illness. In some dogs and cats, mild stomach upset may occur if the animal eats a significant amount of avocado flesh or peel. Ingestion of the pit can lead to obstruction in the gastrointestinal tract, which is a serious situation requiring urgent veterinary care. Avocado is sometimes included in pet foods for nutritional benefit. We would generally not expect avocado meal or oil present in commercial pet foods to pose a hazard to dogs and cats.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8966153019288828091.post-41756272218382010792015-04-05T16:26:25.245-07:002015-04-05T16:26:25.245-07:00Well we have two Yorkies, age 1 and 3.
